My study
Why fashion
For future
Now, I have chosen to continue my studies in Interior Design at the postgraduate level. Compared to the industries I have previously been involved in, interior design feels like a more interdisciplinary field, allowing me to leverage my cross-disciplinary strengths while also expanding my knowledge further. It integrates various aspects of spatial experience, materiality, and visual storytelling, which I find both intellectually stimulating and creatively fulfilling.
My interest in fashion design was also developed during this transition. Many of my favorite interior designers have their own fashion brands or are involved in visual merchandising for their store spaces, with many of them being Japanese brands. Among them, my favorite is Taiga Takahashi. Last year, I visited his store in Kyoto and gained a more direct understanding of his meticulous attention to both fabric selection and interior materials. The way he curates his spaces and garments demonstrates a thoughtful balance between tradition and modernity. In a way, the choice of textiles, building materials, and spatial arrangements communicate with one another in a refined and efficient manner, creating a cohesive design philosophy.
This experience further deepened my interest, which is why I have chosen this course—to establish a foundational understanding of fashion design and explore how it intersects with interior design in terms of aesthetics, functionality, and material exploration.
